Hollywood was invited by NeNe Chicken to review their latest newest Melbourne Fried Chicken options

The new menu has crunchy tacos and special burgers to name a few. These were what we were here for, and thats what we got: The kimchi fried burger, an order of bulgogi tacos and some freakin hot wings for some good measure

The tacos were indeed crunchy and boasted flesh flavours. However we are fans of soft shell tacos. Nevertheless they are a good lighter fried chicken option and worth a try.

The fried chicken burger was in a soft milk bun, had fried thigh chicken patties and was saucy. It was good and balanced. The fried chicken was freshly cooked and juicy

The freakin hot wings were indeed the star of the show. These wings were just the right level of hot spicy. Which for Hollywood, apparently is quite hot! However they were really good, freshly cooked and juicy. The spiciness came from the sauce covering the wings which was true the Korean style.

Things did quite messy around here. Love the touch of the plastic gloves.

While there are a bunch of new contenders on Nene’s menu that we recommend trying as a change to usual K fried chicken. The Chicken Scene still is saying NeNe to the friend chicken pieces of NeNe Chicken

Hollywood and the Tan man were chillin’ in NYC and were in the mood for some good ol Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken.

After the order was put, the waiting game was on!

Finally the buzzer rang and the order of drumsticks, wings and tenders along with mac-n-cheese and fries loads showed up

Blue Ribbon is the real deal. Pure excellence! Hot pipin’ finger lickin’ fresh fried chicken with all the right spices. The Tan Man was quoted saying that Melbourne Fried Chicken has to really up it’s game to reach Blue Ribbon’s level!

The captain was at MIT and needed some dinner after a long day of study.

A short walk from campus and we found the Cambridge Brewing Company (1 Kendall Sq Bldg 100 Cambridge MA). They had “pickle brined fried chicken” on the menu with mac n cheese and butter beans.

The meal was delivered relatively quickly (within 15 minutes).

The chicken was hot, lightly spicy and quite tasty. I received 2 reasonable size pieces. The coating was crispy.
Mac n Cheese was very cheesey of a medium size and the butter beans were an ideal accompaniment.

Overall a very nice ‘comfort food’ meal, nothing spectacular but not disappointing.

This review is of a place that I remember as the best fried chicken place in Jordan when I was growing up. So it seemed only fitting to pay homage to it during my visit back home to see how it compares against Melbourne Fried Chicken. I present to you Popeye’s

The usual go to order for Hollywood is the spicy chicken burger, spicy chicken strips, mashed potatoes with gravy, biscuits and fries

The burger was good, right level of spicy with cheese and some spicy mayo. It was still good, however the bread was a bit too sugary bready, but still good

The chicken strips were good too, however they couldve been better were they chunkier. This made them a bit more crispy fluffy than meaty.

The stars of the show are the mashed potatoe with gravy and the biscuits. The gravy is truely amazing peppery goodness. The biscuits are crispy on the outside and buttery and fluffy on the inside. Combining the two with the chicken is a match made in heaven!

Visiting Popeye’s was a great trip down memory lane. It is fairly good as a fast food fried chicken option in Jordan and I am likely to visit it again

Hollywood and the Chick and Co went to Miss Katie’s Crab Shack new location in Melbourne CBD.We previously tried their chicken in their Victoria St location and it was generally OK but it was time to check out if their Melbourne Fried Chicken offering has upped its game.

We ordered a whole lotta things: Fried chicken, crabs, salads, fries, fried tomatoes. We were a bit worried we ordered too much. There was literally no room for the food coming out on our table!

The chicken came out hot, freshly cooked and steamy. The crispy crunch was definitely there and the spices were present. We really did enjoy the chicken. However they were trumped by the fried green tomatoes.

While the chicken was good, there was nothing really that stood out about it. The real stars of Miss Katie’s were the fried tomatoes and the crabs (as the name of the place suggests).

Have the chicken if you are around/there but don’t make a dedicated trip for it

Hollywood has been eyeing Mr burger for a while ever since the menu had a Melbourne Fried Chicken burger (AKA Mr. Chicken)

Unfortunately this burger didn’t impress at all. It was too oily and greasy and didn’t really have any distinctive flavours. Also the cheese sticks were kinda the same (very oily and greasy and the crust was a bit burnt too). This wasn’t a good burger at all. We’ll probably just stick to their normal beef burger and good trucker chips

Rockwell and Sons still does a great Melbourne Fried Chicken. With 2 days of pre-cooking (brining and dredging) and all the amazing sides, it is still a hit that we want more and more of
