It was a rough day for Hollywood and The Chick as all their plans for a weekend away diving did not work. The best method of recovery? A good serving of Melbourne Fried Chicken.

We went for a close refuge of Leonard’s House Of Love

20160225_190336

The order consisted of the original fried chicken tenders that comes with chipotle mayo

20160225_191615

20160225_191648

As usual this chicken was amazing. It was crunchy, freshly cooked, steamy and well spiced. The tenders are good portioned and the sauce makes a good companion

Hollywood and the gang were going to see Wu Tang and needed a good base in their bellies before all the madness that was to follow. Introducting NeNe Chicken, our latest Melbourne Fried Chicken review

We ended up ordering the corn and chips as sides and a mix of the garlic chicken and the bulgogi fried chicken

20160223_181206

20160223_181458

20160223_181510

The chicken was the usual Korean style that was dipped in sauces. The garlic one had an interesting flavor while the bulgogi was just another version of the spicy. The pieces were average size but the overall flavor was average Korean style fired chicken. It was all hot, fresh and good however nothing really special

It was a warm summer day and Hollywood and The Chick were walking along Southbank where they ran into a group of food trucks. One of them had the delicious smell of Melbourne Fried Chicken. So they decided to give it a taste.

Here’s how it went down

20160218_175929

The order was one of the popcorn fried chicken and a cuban sandwich.

20160218_180752

The chicken was bite sized pieces which went well as a good snack however the star of the show was the cuban which meaty and cheesy and saucy all at the same time. Yummm

Hollywood was with some friends and they all decided to hit up Oriental Spoon for some Korean style Melbourne Fried Chicken

With so many good options to pick from the gang settled on the mixed Korean Fried Chicken (Original and Sweet and Spicy flavoured), Beef Bibimbap, and Kimchi Pancake

20160210_184458

20160210_185330

20160210_185642

The chicken was true to Korean style and was freshly cooked. Although the pieces were boneless they were chunky and meaty. The sweet and spicy flavour was a sauce covering the chicken. It was good and tasted very well. The original style was good and crunchy.

The Bibimbap was average and the kimchi pancake was nice, juicy and big (kinda similar to pizza size)

The Bank on Collins

Hollywood was joining his workmates for a farewell lunch and they all ended up at the Bank on Collins, a place that boasts to have a Melbourne Fried Chicken Burger

20160204_131652

20160204_131647

The fried chicken burger is marketed as a crispy buttermilk chicken thigh on toasted brioche with jalapeno pepper coleslaw and dijonnaise with fries. Now if anything that sounds like a tornado of flavours if anything

20160204_124858

The burger came with two pieces of chicken and looked highly stacked!

20160204_124917

20160204_125118

20160204_125330

To be honest this burger was a disappointment. it lacked really any flavours and the chicken was fried dry. No spices and the marketed sauces didnt do much, just a big bland mess. Hollywood and one of his mates felt really sick for the rest of the day coz of this burger.

Our suggestion is not to go here for fried chicken, give it a big miss and you wont regret it!

Easey’s

Hollywood and the boys have been trying to hit up Easey’s for a while now. They finally managed to fit in and to their surprise they had Melbourne Fried Chicken on the menu. Heres some photos of what went down

Verdict: Alright so Easey’s is a burger joint more than fried chicken. The burgers were good. The chicken portion was small (3 pieces which kinda makes it more of a side) however the chicken was really good and spiced right. The mac-n-cheese on the other hand was really heavily cheesy

Osaka Ya

One thing we forgot to mention is WE LOVE RAMEN. We’ve actually been considering starting a ramen blog and during our last visit to Japan Hollywood had a ramen a day for the entire length of our stay.

We were excited to find out a new ramen joint opened close by and we checked it out for a good slurpiliciousness bowl and ofcourse being true to Japanese cuisine there was Karaage (Japanese Fried Chicken). Check out the photos

The Karaage was good, hot juicy and freshly cooked. It was accompanied with a kewpie mayo which add a twist to it. The ramen on the other hand was average, it was actually not hot, bummer!

SAM SAM

Yes, we came back for Sam Sam. As usual, it was true to its Korean fried chicken colors. Good fried chicken below:

The boys couldn’t stop raving about Sam Sam and how Hollywood was missing out on the best Korean Melbourne Fried Chicken ever. This blog is a result of massive FOMO

20151127_131908

20151127_133340

We settled in the downstairs area and got straight into business; beers and loads of fried chicken. We got half boneless in the original flavor and half boneless in the soy and garlic flavor in addition to the wings in the hot and spicy sauce

20151127_134404

The wings arrived first and were the typical Korean style where they are fried then doused in the sauce. They had the right level of heat and were good. Cooked well, hot and steamy. The accompanying coleslaw was also a delight.

20151127_134851

The remainder of our order arrived and it was the right size: BIG! The original style was good, had a good crunch to it while the soy and garlic had good tasty flavors. Overall the chicken was all fresh, juicy and tender. The order was also accompanied by the delicious slaw and pickles.

It was a long day of travel for Hollywood and on the way home yet another article was out listing more of the best Melbourne Fried Chicken and to Hollywood’s surprise there was a new entry really close to home, Leonard’s House of Love

20151124_184427

This was a quick hit and run after a long day at work. This place had a really cool chilled out set up and seemed like a great spot to hang with some friends and kick a few drink backs with some good ol crispy cluckers. Hollywood’s order was The Hot and Glazed Chicken Tenders with Pickles & Chipotle Mayo.

Dude Food Man – Repeat

We were at the Melbourne Zoo and ready for a hearty meal and so a suggestion was brought up that made Hollywood feel really good, The Dude Food Man. It’s one of those places that advertises amazing burgers but is a bit out of the way for the Melbourne Fried Chicken scene to venture out to, but on this specific day we did!

20151122_140643

20151122_140705

There were 3 of us so we decided on the dude burger, the southern fried chicken burger and the mushroom burger along with a side of mac and cheese and the fries

20151122_143017

20151122_143032

The Chick has an issue with fried mac n cheese in that she feels it usually dries out the sauce. These ones were OK, better than the usual ones but the creaminess factor was not up to the chick’s standards.

20151122_143150

20151122_143302

The dude burger was good too, however it wasn’t amazing but nonetheless really good to have

20151122_143035

The fried chicken burger on the other hand was really good, we enjoyed that one the best out of all the 3 burgers were ordered

Ghost Kitchen – At Asian Noodle Night Markets

Hollywood was meeting a few friends at the Asian Noodle Night Markets at passed by a familiar smell, thats right Melbourne Fried Chicken smell being served up by Ghost Kitchen.

20151118_175523

The Taiwanese burger and an order of the salt n pepper fried chicken were ordered for a quick smash bash. The chicken comes with an option of adding hot chili sauce, ofcourse we went for that.

20151118_180211

20151118_180045

20151118_175644

The burger was really good, fresh and juicy

20151118_180116

20151118_180649

The chicken was your average fried up food truck Taiwanese style chicken, was very spicy with the sauce which was a good addition. The salt n pepper flavors were also very prominent. The chicken itself was freshly cooked however it was average over all.

20151118_175537

20151118_175553

There many options at the night market, Ghost Kitchen is a good option but we feel there more treasures to be found there
